Jigsaw Puzzles ”Sågverk”:
A collaboration between Birgitta and Gunnar Cyrén
Studio Gunnar Cyrén is now reintroducing a family favourite: the jigsaw puzzles called ”Sågverk”, a unique collaboration between Birgitta and Gunnar Cyrén.
These playful and beautiful creations are made to highlight celebrations – birthdays, weddings, Christmas, graduations, you name it. A fun and unexpected gift, they are entertaining to assemble and practical to stow away, easily deconstructed back into the packaging.
Over the years, Birgitta Cyrén had been a discussion partner for her husband’s many projects. Now Gunnar and Birgitta wanted to start with common ideas. Over the course of a couple of years, the thoughts developed into sketches, then into jig sawn and painted works of art – imaginative, colourful and elegant. At the end of 2003, the first decorated designs emerged, with names such as Winter Horses, the Spiral Staircase and the Christmas Cake. The finished results were somewhat modestly called ”Sågverk” which alludes to the Swedish word for saw mill but also refers to the time consuming job of jig sawing.
The Sågverk are inpired of architecture, sometimes reminiscent of carousels or old-time toys. Gradually, an entire collection emerged and thoughts of showcasing the result began to take shape. On December 14, 2005, the exhibition ”Towers, Temples and Other Fantasy Architecture” was inaugurated at the County Museum of Gävleborg. Since then, the Sågverk have been packed away but not forgotten. In 2024, Studio Gunnar Cyrén relaunches three Sågverk. We hope you like them and that we’ll eventually have the opportunity to unpack more.
